  • Over 65% of the U.S. population has curly, coily, or wavy hair, with a growing percentage of textured-hair women embracing their natural hair.

  • Textured hair care is the top category for Black consumers, with approximately $2.29B in annual sales, given the unique needs of textured hair types and the popularity of natural hair movement.

  • In the United States, there are more than 1,000 beauty schools and over 330,000 students enrolled in cosmetology programs.

  • In June 2022, Textured Queens Hair Academy hosted a free cornrow braiding class. Out of over 100 attendees, 70% were caucasian women in the tv or film industry.

  • The Crown Act, which stands for creating a respectful and open workplace for natural hair, is a California law that prohibits discrimination based on hairstyle and hair texture by extending protection for both categories under the FEHA and California Education Code.
